Detail shot of Polypropylene : Pahokee
Artist + Educator
I am motivated to make by the material abundance of the modern world, considering the things that are overflowing landfills, while recognizing the materials that are slowly disappearing from common use. I am paralyzed by the knowledge of how much waste humans create, and the lack of power the individual has to combat it. However, I find agency in craft and take refuge in the action of handcraft methods that can calm hands and minds.
My work examines materiality, visual deception, and parasitic relationships, by utilizing handcraft methods that combine natural fibers and synthetic materials. Through this process, I create abstract and unfamiliar forms that question the complex relationship between the artificial and organic.
